How do I save GIFs to my Photos library?
This is something that a lot of people ask about! As it turns out, there's a couple of ways to do it, you just have to know where to look.
- Open the preview screen for the GIF you wish to save.
- Tap the action button (the box with an arrow pointing up) in the top right corner of the screen.
- On the sheet that opens up, tap "Share Image". This will open a share sheet for performing actions with the GIF.
- Find the "Save Image" icon in the bottom row and tap it.
Alternatively, you can:
- Open the preview screen for the GIF you wish to save.
- Tap the info button (the letter "i" in a circle) in the bottom left corner of the screen, just above the tab bar.
- Towards the bottom of the "Info" screen that comes up, you'll find a button labelled "Save to Photos". Tap that!
You may be presented with an alert, requesting access to be able to add images to your Photos. You will need to allow this by selecting "OK", otherwise saving images will fail (and you won't be asked again, it'll just fail). You can change this access at any time within the GIFwrapped section of Settings.app.
Don't forget, though: in iOS 10 and earlier, the Photos app doesn't support displaying animated GIFs. As long as it's in there, the preview will be boring and static, but you'll find that it should share just fine (as long as the app you're sharing to supports animated GIFs).
